What began in 1793 as a rope-making business founded by Claus Hinrich Michelsen in the fishing village of Grohn near Bremen is now the market leader for stylish bath and home textiles in German-speaking countries. With passion and a pioneering spirit, we develop creative designs and high-quality products from our base in Bremen. Around 120 employees serve approximately 5,000 customers worldwide in more than 40 countries. Since 2010, we have been part of the internationally successful Possehl Group and continue to stand for quality, reliability, and innovation from Northern Germany.

Our Story

1793

With a pioneering spirit and foresight, rope maker Claus Hinrich Michelsen (1772–1854) founded his rope manufacturing company in 1793 in the fishing village of Grohn near Bremen - the origin of Kleine Wolke.

1892

The founder’s descendants make such skillful use of the industrialization boom that in 1892 the company is converted into a public limited company.

1924

In 1924, the Bremen merchant Fritz Tecklenborg (1888–1964) acquired the majority stake and remained the outstanding entrepreneurial figure of the rope and carpet factory until his death.

1947

The production of woven carpets as well as rugs made of sisal and wool was launched and, from 1950 onwards, was established in an independent company, "Bremer Teppich-Fabrik F. Tecklenborg & Co. KG".

1968 - Kleine Wolke is born

A flash of inspiration from Managing Director Günter Brinkmann gives the carpets from Bremen-Grohn their decisive boost in 1968: during a flight, Brinkmann invents “Kleine Wolke” - fluffy and pure and worth its weight in Gold as a brand name.

1977

Establishment of Kleine Wolke AG in Mägenwil, Switzerland, to strengthen our international presence.

Introduction of the still very well-known Kleine Wolke logo to this day.

Expansion of the range to include safety inserts and broadening of the product variety for the bathroom.

2010

The internationally active Possehl Group, headquartered in Lübeck, acquires Kleine Wolke in 2010. Founded in 1847, Possehl is now active in 9 business areas, consists of more than 200 companies, and employs more than 13,500 people in more than 30 countries across five continents.

With around 100 employees at its headquarters in the Hanseatic city of Bremen and at its subsidiary in Mägenwil, Switzerland, Kleine Wolke serves around 5,000 customers in 40 countries. Long-standing partners include specialist and furniture retailers, specialist home textile stores, department stores and retail stores, DIY stores, and mail-order companies.
