Our story
1793
With pioneering spirit and foresight, rope maker Claus Hinrich Michelsen (1772–1854) founded his rope company in 1793 in the fishing village of Grohn near Bremen - the origin of Kleine Wolke.
1892
The founder's descendants knew how to use the boom of industrialization so skillfully that in 1892 the company was transformed into a public limited company.
1924
The Bremen merchant Fritz Tecklenborg (1888–1964) acquired the majority shares in 1924 and was the outstanding entrepreneurial figure of the rope and carpet factory until his death.
1947
The production of woven carpets and rugs made of sisal and wool was started and, from 1950 onwards, was housed in an independent company, the "Bremer Teppich-Fabrik F. Tecklenborg & Co. KG".
1968 - Little Cloud is born
A flash of inspiration from managing director Günter Brinkmann in 1968 provided the decisive boost for the carpets from Bremen-Grohn: On a flight, Brinkmann invented the "Little Cloud" - fluffy and pure and worth its weight in gold as a brand name.
1977
Establishment of Kleine Wolke AG in Mägenwil, Switzerland, to strengthen our international presence.
1981
Introduction of the Little Cloud logo, which is still very well-known today.
1984
Expansion of the product range to include safety insoles and broadening of the product variety for the bathroom.
1999
Integration of the long-established Meusch brand, thereby strengthening the range of bathroom textiles.
2007
Expansion of the product range to include high-quality bed linen and creation of new living environments.
2010
The internationally active Possehl Group, headquartered in Lübeck, acquired Kleine Wolke in 2010. Founded in 1847, Possehl is now active in 9 business areas, comprises more than 200 companies and employs more than 13,500 people in over 30 countries on five continents.
2016
Rebranding of the Kleine Wolke brand – with a new logo and modernized brand appearance.
Today
With around 100 employees at its headquarters in the Hanseatic city of Bremen and its subsidiary in Mägenwil, Switzerland, Kleine Wolke serves approximately 5,000 customers in 40 countries. Long-standing partners include specialist retailers, furniture stores, home textile retailers, department stores, DIY stores, and mail-order companies.
